training multiple dogs
Living in a multi-dog household can be enjoyable and fun, but it can also be chaotic—especially when it comes time for training. How do you teach one dog new behaviors in the presence of another dog? The simplest way to solve this challenge is to either separate the dogs or keep them together and station the non-working dog on a mat.
In this video, KPA CTP Paisley Lunchick is teaching Kite to put his toys away while Bowing waits his turn on his assigned mat. Note how Paisley rewards Bowing each time Kite earns a click/treat. The reward reinforces Bowing for remaining calm and relaxed during Kite’s training session and also helps create a cooperative environment. When Kite performs the behavior successfully, both dogs win!
