teach your cat to ring a bell
In this video, Karen Pryor Academy (KPA) Associate Director Gretchen Carey is teaching her cat Frankie to ring a bell with her paw. To begin teaching this behavior, grab a clicker and some treats. You can use cat treats or even diced chicken or bits of tuna. Place the bell on the floor. Your curious cat will likely move toward the shiny new object or even sniff it. Click and treat for any interaction with the bell. Your cat is likely to interact with the bell with more vigor—perhaps swatting it with his paw. Click and treat. Progress to rewarding your cat only when the bell rings. It won’t take him long to figure out that the sound of the bell means delicious treats!
