introducing your dog to eye drops
Receiving eye drops can be quite stressful for many dogs (and humans!). However, with some planning and training, you can teach your dog to participate willingly. It can be an eye-opening experience!
In this video, KPA CTP Anna Wong uses treats to help her dog Kempie build a positive association with the eye-dropper bottle. As Kempie becomes comfortable with the bottle, Anna moves on to build comfort with the approach of the dropper. She uses a chin rest behavior to help Kempie remain calm and hold still long enough for her to administer the drops. Now, when the dropper approaches Kempie’s eye, instead of flinching and turning away, Kempie holds still!
