Introducing a puppy to bath time
Before introducing a puppy to the bathtub, make the tub safe and comfortable by lining it with a non-skid mat. Break down the bath process step-by-step, just as you do with any new experience. In this video, KPA CTP Sarah Rodriguez demonstrates how she introduces baths to her puppy Starting outside the tub, Sarah waits for her puppy to look at the tub and then offers a treat. Next, she grabs the tub’s nozzle, offering frequent treats as she adds water to the tub. Once her puppy is comfortable with the sound of the water running, she gently places her puppy in the tub. As Sarah bathes her puppy, her partner offers treats generously to ensure that the bathing process is a fun and positive experience. No helper/partner? No problem! Use a lick mat that sticks to the side of the tub (or spread a lickable treat on the tub) to keep your dog happy and busy. Scrub-a-dub-dub, we’re having fun in the tub!
