confidence in motion: the power of behavior sequences in dog sports
Behavior sequences refer to a series of actions or behaviors performed by the dog in a specific order. Whether it's agility, obedience, or canine freestyle, behavior sequences are the essential building blocks that turn a routine into a masterpiece. Sequences are meticulously designed to create fluidity and precision in the dog's performance. In this video, KPA CTP Amy Tarrant and her dog Neeka practice sequencing on the teeter. In agility, dogs must be able to place one part of a foot in the contact area, both on the way up the teeter and on the way down. However, Neeka loves to fly off the contacts, making contact with only the tip of her nail. By practicing the sequence regularly and working backwards from the last behavior to the first (back-chaining), Amy helps Neeka create precision on the teeter.
In the dazzling world of dog sports, behavior sequences build confidence in motion, transforming ordinary routines into extraordinary performances. Looking for more ideas for training critical sport skills? Check out Karen Pryor Academy’s Dog Sports Essentials course!
