karen pryor academy announces five new faculty hires
Jen Biglan has been a KPA Certified Training Partner (CTP) for 8 years and is a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant. Jen’s natural talent for understanding, addressing, and alleviating fearful and aggressive tendencies in dogs has earned her the respect of local veterinarians and the community. “I am excited to help spread the joy of modern, science-based animal training,” Jen says. “I love the enthusiasm and fresh perspectives new trainers bring to training. You could spend your whole life learning about dog training and behavior and never get bored. Let’s get started!”
Bobbie Lyons has been training dogs for 18+ years. A training and canine fitness blogger, she has published numerous articles on canine fitness for Clean Run magazine and co-authored articles for Animal Therapy magazine. Bobbie has authored a 50-page chapter for Linda Mecklenburg’s Mastering Jumping Skills (Volume One); additional exercises were published in Volume Two. Bobbie says, “I am excited to help students become better communicators while training their animals.”
Juliana Willems works full time as a private trainer, specializing in reactivity, anxiety, and aggression cases. Juliana regularly shares her training expertise on radio and TV, including on WTOP and Good Morning Washington. She was a regular guest on The Pet Show with Dr. Katy for many years. Juliana also presents seminars and webinars both locally and nationally in an effort to spread good training information to as many pet owners as possible. Juliana says, “I’m looking forward to helping more highly skilled trainers join our industry to spread good positive reinforcement training to as many pet owners as possible.”
Kiki Yablon has been a KPA CTP since 2011 and full time trainer since 2012. Since 2014, Kiki has also worked under behavior analyst Dr. Susan Friedman as a co-instructor for Living and Learning With Animals, an eight-week intensive course in behavior analysis for animal professionals taught twice a year. Kiki is TAGteach certified (Level 1) and has continually earned the "Client Endorsed" distinction through KPA's voluntary Assurance, Commitment, and Education program. Kiki writes a well-read blog on her website, has written about behavior and training for other outlets, and has edited articles, books, and lectures for other behavior professionals. Kiki notes, “I am really looking forward to helping fellow trainers make the connection between effective training and the principles that we can use to adapt that training for each individual we teach.”
Andre Yeu left a career in technology to pursue dog training, graduating from Karen Pryor Academy in 2010. He is passionate about entrepreneurship and has grown his training business to include seven full time trainers and three training facilities across Toronto, with more than 10,000 dogs (and their families) as clients. “My time as a student in the DTP was wonderful, full of curiosity, inspiration, and amazement,” says Andre. “Every workshop felt like swallowing an entire lake of knowledge, whole. I’d like to pay this forward to the next generation of dog trainer aspirants.”
“I am thrilled to have these excellent trainers and teachers join our KPA faculty,” adds Ken Ramirez, Executive Vice President & Chief Training Officer, Karen Pryor Academy. “They help us continue Karen's vision and her goal of always having leading positive reinforcement trainers teach our Dog Trainer Professional program. They are examples of our certification process succeeding and coming full circle as each are graduates themselves.”
