encouraging cats to come out of their enclosures
In this video, a shelter worker demonstrates how to use clicker training, with tasty treats, to encourage a cat to venture out of an enclosure. She begins by reinforcing any interest in exploring outside the enclosure, such as poking a head out and looking around. She then clicks and treats every time the cat makes a move toward leaving the enclosure. When the cat seems hesitant, she takes a step back and works on reinforcing smaller steps toward the ultimate goal of exploring beyond the enclosure.
Encouraging a shelter cat to come out of its enclosure requires time, patience, and understanding. By creating a safe and rewarding environment, respecting the cat's pace, and celebrating small victories you can help feline friends step into the spotlight of a loving and caring home.
