Cat Pawsitive National High-Five Day Contest Winner Clicks to $5,000 Prize
In early June, the Oshkosh Area Humane Society (OAHS) was awarded the $5,000 first prize in the Jackson Galaxy Project’s National High-Five Day contest. Voters selected the video of OAHS cats Charlie, Aven, Rocky, PJ, and Tracer offering high-fives for clicks and treats as the top submission from hundreds of entries. OAHS Behavioral Department Manager and KPA graduate Cari Tetzlaff was quoted in the press release from the shelter. “This means so much to us and is really a testament to how much our staff invests in the animals here. Cats deserve enrichment and learning opportunities just like dogs and I think this contest really showcased their ability to learn and bond with people.”

Oshkosh Area Humane Society wins Top Prize in Cat Pawsitive National High-Five Day Contest
Thanks to the hard work of cats Charlie, Aven, Rocky, PJ and Tracer, along with human staff, the Oshkosh Area Humane Society (OAHS) has won the Cat Pawsitive National High-Five Day Contest. The organization will take the first place prize of $5,000 and the opportunity to send two people to social media feline sensation Lil Bub’s birthday party where they’ll have the chance to meet Lil Bub and Jackson Galaxy, renowned cat behaviorist and star of the television show “My Cat from Hell.” OAHS’ video featuring shelter cat guests was picked as a Top 25 Finalist out of hundreds of entries. For the last two weeks they’ve battled for first place while the public could vote on their favorite video.
“This means so much to us and is really a testament to how much our staff invests in the animals here. Cats deserve enrichment and learning opportunities just like dogs and I think this contest really showcased their ability to learn and bond with people,” says Behavioral Department Manager Cari Tetzlaff.
Tetzlaff pointed out although there were five cats featured in the video, they had worked with many more who learned to high five but they got adopted before they could make it to the final video. Two of the cats in the video, Tracer and PJ, have gone to their new homes.
“This is such an honor and we are all so grateful for our community of supporters who rallied behind us. So many people were sharing the contest on social media and encouraging their friends and family to vote every day. It was really amazing,” said OAHS Executive Director Joni Geiger.
About the contest: GreaterGood.org's Jackson Galaxy Project has teamed up with Lil BUB, Petco Foundation, and the Animal Rescue Site to bring the second annual National High-Five Day Contest. The most creative feline high-five video will win $5,000 for the shelter of their choice and a trip to Lil BUB's 8th birthday party, where they will meet Jackson Galaxy and Lil BUB.
