Great question!
Like most things, the more you put in the more you will get out! To guide you, on a weekly basis, you should plan to:
- Attend the two-hour weekly LIVE class which meets over Zoom on Wednesdays for two hours at 1pm Pacific Time
- Before LIVE class! Watch the 45-minute weekly skills video
- Before LIVE class! Practice training the behaviors
- Excel students should spend at least 45 minutes, spread out over several days, practicing the training of the weekly behaviors. There are four new behaviors each week; you will choose two behaviors to work on in your LIVE class
- Optional: Build-in time for video. Excel students can also submit videos of their practice sessions to Lori for written feedback via the class forum. Limits: Up to two minutes of video in total per week, with a maximum of four submissions. The video submission must be shared by 3pm Pacific Time.
- Engage students. To get the most out of the class, we also recommend spending 30-45 minutes practicing the training of the weekly behaviors, but there is no requirement.

Here's What You'll Be Learning Week by Week
Available to watch on demand beginning May 22
In webinar #1 you will learn how to set up your dog and the learning environment for success and fun for any fitness and movement exercises. We will start the exercises by learning how to teach your dog to hand target and how to follow targets to create movement. With those basic skills, Lori will show you how to use the moving target to teach your dog cavaletti fitness, i.e., walking and trotting over poles, and how to teach figure eights.
These exercises help build your dog’s safe physical precision movement and spatial awareness and your own observation skills. We will also discuss solidifying your “go-to behaviors” and how they can be used in fitness as well as in other environments to overcome common challenges. You will learn how all of these behaviors and concepts build the environment and foundation skills for fitness and movement as we move into webinar #2.
Tuition: $5,300 (see course page for prices in other currency)
In week #2, we will be using the environmental set-up and skills from week #1 to build out an expanded repertoire of behaviors and deepen your understanding of fitness concepts. We will focus on paw targeting, including front and hind leg targeting, and how to spin in both directions.
This series of behavior helps you learn how your own orientation affects your dog's orientation to an object, illustrates the importance of your dog's alignment, and teaches you what to look for and reinforce—using your fitness lens—as your dog is learning. We will discuss the full benefits of these behaviors for fitness and movement and why they are excellent go-to behaviors under many environmental conditions. Our LIVE class #2 is coming up soon!
Available to watch on demand beginning May 29

Tuition: $5,300 (see course page for prices in other currency)
In webinar #3, we will be building on webinars #1 and #2 to add to your fitness toolkit. We will be working on the joy of go-arounds, standing in balance (more difficult than you might think!), and targeting your hand lightly with each front paw, as well as increasing duration for these behaviors. We will also cover the specific alignment to achieve during each exercise. As usual, we will cover the benefits of these behaviors for fitness and movement.

Live! June 10, 2020 at 4 p.m. ET | Register by Tuesday, June 9 at 12 pm ET to participate.
Available to Watch On Demand June 12
In webinar #4, we will take your fitness up (or down!) another level. We will be working on the tuck-sit to stands, sphinx (aka fold-back) down to stands, and weight-shifting. We will also cover the number of repetitions and sets you might do in a fitness routine. Finally, we’ll cover the importance of warming up and cooling down and how you can fit those steps into your fitness routine easily.
As an added bonus, this week’s challenge is a tuck-sit to kick-back stand. See you next week when we’ll discuss how you can put these exercises together. Are you down with this?

In webinar #5, we’ll learn a few final skills and how to put together a fabulous fitness routine. First, we’ll rock back and have a seat while learning another variation of sit—the rock-back sit, with a stand between each sit-repetition. We’ll move on to teaching high-quality high-fives or waves and we’ll cover how to teach your dog to take a beautiful bow. As usual, we will explain the benefits of these behaviors for fitness and movement.
Now that you know a number of fitness exercises, we’ll learn how to put them together for a fitness routine, how long a fitness routine should last, and the importance of timers. We’ll also show examples of how you can take the exercises you’ve mastered to the next level.
We leave you with a final, fun exercise to work into your routine: side-stepping. Congratulations! You are ready to become your dog’s personal canine fitness coach!
