At Ease: Safe Spaces for Home and On-The-Go
All students will learn (and practice):
- A robust working definition of “safe space”
- How to recognize and build an excellent safe space *spoiler! Your dog will tell you!
- How to maintain and boost the impact of your dog’s safe space, even when life gets busy
- How to use safe space training to help dogs gain the skills to navigate the world, even when their worlds are big and scary
- How to apply Safe Space training to an ever-growing number of spaces so your dog learns to generalize these skills
- How to teach your clients to teach their dogs to seek out and use safe spaces for a wide range of anxious behaviors
If you are an Excel student, you will learn all of the above with one-on-one, real-time coaching during the Zoom calls, video review, feedback, unlimited Q&A over the discussion board, and a personalized care plan specific to you and your dog or cat. You don’t need an anxious dog to participate. You’ll learn the skills and how to apply them when you or a client needs them.

At Ease: Safe Spaces for Home and On-The-Go
Dogs often have “big feelings” about one or many stimuli in their regular lives, from separation and isolation to fireworks or the mail carrier. Common management techniques, like minimizing your dog's time alone, covering their crates, and sound masking, are often helpful in the moment but alleviate symptoms without addressing causes or teaching skills that can make dogs' and their people’s lives much better over the long haul.
The sustainable, smart solution is to create places where dogs feel at ease and give them the agency and skill to move to those environments independently. Then, we can teach dogs behaviors that help them calm themselves. These principles are put into action in the “Safe Spaces” class.
In this five-week, four-unit LIVE! Class, Ellen will coach you through creating, conditioning, and maintaining safe spaces for your or your clients’ dogs. These techniques apply whether your dog is merely suspicious of or boisterously reactive to stimuli and can also be applied to non-dog species. However, this class is not designed for dogs with resource-guarding issues.
