Does your dog go berserk when you come home? Do you wish your dog would greet you calmly rather than barking or jumping on you? Having your dog greet you (and your visitors) politely is a worthwhile behavior to train—and it’s easy!

In this video, Karen Pryor Academy (KPA) Certified Training Partner (CTP) Erin Gianella helps her client teach her dog Dolly calm behavior (in this case sitting) when her client enters the house. Her client clicks and treats when Dolly sits at the door, as well as when Dolly follows her to the kitchen calmly. Note how her client also remains calm, which helps keep Dolly’s excitement threshold low. “Dolly has come a LONG way,” says Erin. “This is the calmest we’ve seen her and I couldn’t be more proud!”
