The Dog Trainer Professional program is for the highly motivated trainer who has specific goals for improving knowledge, skills, and career prospects. The course blends online learning with hands-on instruction from some of the best teachers in the field.
Summary:
Carolyn Clark has a background in education. She has taught elementary school in Ottawa and, at the college level, classes in the continuing education department at Algonquin College and the Carleton Board of Education. A guest lecturer at the Veterinary Technician program at Algonquin College, Carolyn has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in pastoral group work, as well as an Ontario teacher certificate.
Bio:
Carolyn has a passion for teaching animals and people. Her own animal companions have included fish, horses, birds, and dogs—and a garter snake called Snavely. With her toy poodle, she earned the first of several obedience titles beginning in 1967. Awards and shows with her Doberman pinschers, English cocker spaniels, and a German shepherd followed.
For many years, Carolyn taught classes for the Bytown Dog Obedience Club. She also taught her own classes under the name Carolark (Care for the Ark), before turning over the reins to new owners in the spring of 2010. Carolark was one of the first three schools in Canada to teach puppy classes following Dr. Ian Dunbar’s Sirius Puppy Training protocols. In 1992, Carolyn turned her hobby into a successful fulltime business, founding the Centre for Applied Canine Behaviour in Kanata (Ottawa). In 1994, Carolark and the Centre for Applied Canine Behaviour became the first training school in Canada to fully apply the technology of clicker training; the school is featured in Karen Pryor’s Puppy Love video.
Carolyn offers seminars and workshops for pet owners and instructors in Canada, the US, Scandinavia, and Japan. She is proud to be an associate of Turid Rugaas of Hagan Hundeskole and International Ring of Trainers. A graduate of the Bailey and Bailey operant conditioning courses, Carolyn is honored to have been a teaching assistant for Bob and Marian Bailey during four summers. Carolyn was a presenter at Karen Pryor’s first two clicker conferences, the precursors to Clicker Expo. She is currently on the faculty of the prestigious Karen Pryor Academy.
A charter member of APDT, a founding member of CAPPDT, and a life member of the Canadian Kennel Club, Carolyn is a proud grandmother of four grand kids . She is an active Rotarian, a charter member of the Ottawa-Stittsville Rotary club.
