This course is for anyone with an interest in improving their relationship with their dog or puppy, as well as for those with a growing interest in dog training and behavior.
If more coaching and feedback is what you are looking for in an online course or if you'd like a bit more help from your teacher to keep you on track, Dog Trainer Foundations Immersion is a great choice. If that's less important to you, or if you are on a tight budget, check out the standard Dog Trainer Foundations course, which offers less coaching and a lower price but the identical curriculum.
Both courses help you get the skills needed to be successful in our Professional program. They are also a quick way for veterinary technicians, pet sitters/walkers, or groomers to learn the foundational concepts and basic skills they can apply on the job.

Steve Benjamin is the owner of Clicking With Canines in Endicott, NY. Steve retired from the federal government in January 2004 to pursue his passion for working with dogs and their owners. Steve specializes in teaching clicker training to his clients, helping them teach their dogs to be socially acceptable, happy, and intelligent family pets. Steve is a faculty member for the Karen Pryor Academy and instructs KPA Dog Trainer Professional program sessions in New York (spring/summer) and Florida (fall/winter).

The course, with time for coaching, is designed to be completed in 8 weeks, but you receive 14 weeks of access so that you can take your time.
The dog activities are all provided in PDF form so you can print and make a workbook for your personal use.
1. Computer or device with high-speed internet access; camera (laptops come with them) for video conferencing is recommended and you can use a phone app as well.
2. A free Google account to work with the coach. If you have an existing Gmail address, you already have a Google account. If not, you will be given easy instructions for setting up an account.

No. This course is a great foundation for dog trainers but does not cover teaching others or complex topics, and it does not include a practical assessment of your skills.

This course is great preparation for the Dog Trainer Professional program or the The Dog Trainer Comprehensive course.
Dog Trainer Professional (DTP) is an application-based, six-month-long course with multiple educational components. It provides the potential for certification as a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner. While Dog Trainer Foundations-Immersion is entirely online, DTP is a hybrid of online learning and hands-on workshops.
The Dog Trainer Comprehensive (DTC) course, like Foundations, is fully online and you can start right away. It is more in depth and longer than the Foundations course, includes 10 hours of online coaching, and is designed for someone with considerable interest in learning modern dog training.
The standard Dog Trainer Foundations course uses the identical curriculum and has the same educational goals as the Dog Trainer Foundations-Immersion course, but provides less coaching and related support. If you would use the online coaching and feedback as part of your learning experience, and prefer more help from your teacher to keep you on track, Immersion is a great choice. If that's less important to you, or if you are on a tight budget, check out the Dog Trainer Foundations course, which offers less coaching and a lower price.
