- Bio
Laura has always been attracted to animals. Her grandfather often admonished her that she would one day be bitten, and occasionally she was, but not enough to deter her intense curiosity or affinity for animals. Growing up, Laura lived with a menagerie of animals including dogs, cats, birds, a rat, mice, gerbils, hamsters, fish, a toad, turtles, and rabbits. Although she was raised in the suburbs primarily, she was fortunate enough to live across the street from a small cattle and horse farm where all the neighborhood children played and interacted with both species on a daily basis.
As Laura entered adulthood, she earned a BA in business administration and worked as a business analyst while she raised her family. As her children moved away to start their own lives, she found herself sharing her home with four dogs, and was reminded of her earlier attachment to animals. She began training and showing her dogs. This, and the adoption of a stray that later became fearfully reactive, led Laura to an intense interest in training and behavior. She has attended hundreds of hours of training classes, seminars, and conferences. The culmination of Laura’s training has been her success as one of the first Karen Pryor Academy Dog Trainer Program graduates, and as a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner.
In 2004, Laura began her professional training career, and in 2006 passed a rigorous examination to become a Certified Pet Dog Trainer and, subsequently, an American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. Laura opened her training facility in 2006 as well, and now has a small staff assisting her as she teaches dog owners how to train their dogs using force-free, pain-free methods. In addition to teaching classes, Laura and her staff are very active in their communities, volunteering hundreds of hours to worthy causes with the underlying goal of keeping pets in their homes.
