- Summary
As a breeder of Border terriers (Flint Creek Border terriers), Terri P. Tepper paid particular attention to clicker training the puppies, starting when they were 6 weeks old. When they left for their new homes at 10 weeks, the pups walked on a leash, settled on a mat, and gave their new owners eye contact. On puppy pickup day, the new owners were introduced to clicker training.
Terri's interests have since taken her to fulltime clicker training and freestyle. She created The Cultivated Canine to provide in-home training and consultations. She enjoys working with adults owning their first dog. In addition, she helps people who have owned many dogs throughout their life, but who want to better integrate a new dog into the family. A former teacher, another of Terri’s strengths is helping children train the family dog.
- Bio
Terri has a BS in education and a BA in photography. After retiring from teaching, she specialized in on-location family environmental portraits. Pets, especially dogs, were almost always an integral part of the family portraits.
Working in people’s homes is a theme throughout Terri’s life. She co-authored the book, The New Entrepreneurs: Women Working From Home, traversing the United States interviewing and photographing women in their homes. Those portraits many times included dogs.
Dogs have always been important to Terri. She has participated in conformation, obedience, agility, and freestyle. When she attended the first ClickerExpo in Chicago in 2003, her passion turned to gentle training through clicker training. Karen Pryor Academy opened its doors in June 2007 and Terri jumped at the chance to dedicate herself to clicker training. Among the first graduating class to be certified, her life turned full circle, and she has returned to teaching once again in her favorite environment—peoples’ homes. It is here she feels she can make the biggest impact in helping to integrate a dog into family life successfully.
