Summary

Marie Devaney, owner/trainer of The Fundamental Dog, is dedicated to helping dogs and their people build relationships based on trust and understanding. She knows from personal experience how frustrating it can be to love your dog but not be able to “control” him. For over a decade, Marie has studied with some of the leading experts in positive-reinforcement dog training, and she finds great joy in sharing her knowledge with real-world dogs and their owners.

Bio

Marie spent many years as an admirer of those well-trained dogs that other people had. Although several wonderful dogs graced her life, it wasn’t until she discovered clicker training that she realized she, too, could have a well-trained and happy dog. Finally, here was a way to train that was fun, force-free, and effective! The best part was that her dogs loved clicker training, too. Her enthusiasm for this new method eventually led Marie to a second career as a professional dog trainer.

After adopting her first rescue dog in 1996, Marie volunteered with two national rescue groups, fostering over 100 dogs. Those dogs proved to be excellent teachers! She has also taught dogs in shelters, provided training to shelter adopters and volunteers, and counseled foster parents and adopters around the country. Her pursuit of more knowledge and experience has been an ongoing mission, highlighted by her graduation from Karen Pryor Academy as a Certified Training Partner.

Marie’s current animal family includes two adopted cats, two retired Arabian horses, and two rescued dogs: Kitty, the elegant and talented three-legged springer spaniel, and Harry, a mostly-bichon ball of energy.
