Summary

Although she is employed fulltime at the Saint Louis Zoo as a trainer of humans, Lucy fills every spare minute working with dogs. Her small business, Dogs Unleashed, LLC, offers private, in-home lessons for owners who need individual coaching. Lucy also provides small-group consultations through Kingsbury Animal Hospital.

In a unique partnership, the Greater St. Louis Training Club, Inc. and the Humane Society of Missouri sponsor programs and dog-training classes. Lucy helps with the design and implementation of the partnership's large-scale training program, and is responsible for the training of approximately 40 individuals who serve as trainers.

Bio

Lucy’s jobs during her school years included volunteering at the Humane Society of Missouri, training chinchillas at the Central Institute for the Deaf, and working with horses in southern Missouri. She began a career as a zookeeper in 1970, a position that allowed her the opportunity to train young animals of many species including wolves, bears, big cats, primates, llamas, and camels, as well as a variety of adult small mammals and birds. Lucy still works at the Saint Louis Zoo as the manager of training and staff development.

Lucy's dog training experience began at age 14 with her first Welsh terrier. She is a long-time member of Greater St. Louis Training Club, where she was instrumental in forging a training partnership with the Humane Society of Missouri. Lucy does private, in-home training as a partner in a small business, Dogs Unleashed, LLC. She lives in Saint Louis with the sixth generation of the Welsh terriers she breeds and shows in conformation and performance events. Lucy is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT).
